Beer line cleaning

Post by teambpl » Fri Nov 07, 2014 9:09 pm

Hi all,

I'd been looking for an easier method for line cleaning on my sankey keg set up rather than faffing using a keg and gassing up etc. I searched on here but eventually found some ideas on an American forum using a garden sprayer. So, I have sourced the required bits and thought I'd share the results.

First off, a garden sprayer with an unscrewable nozzle, I used this. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Landsca ... tem_detail

Next I got hold of a John guest fitting 3/8 bsp to 3/8 push fit, got mine off the bay for 3 quid.

Remove the brass nozzle and the fitting screws on, don't think the threads a perfect match but it went on and sealed.

So now it's just a case of filling with your preferred cleaner, pop your line off the keg and plug in to your bottle, pressurise then operate your tap and follow the line cleaner instructions.

I've just done mine now, took about 10 mins, result!

My lines aren't too long so the bottle was plenty to do both but just refill as required.

Hope this helps,

Happy brewing!

brilliant, thanks for sharing. been thinking i'll probably just use my solar pump to recirculate through the lines but this could be a really handy quick solution
dazzled, doused in gin..

Good stuff; I did something very similar for corny disconnects some years ago.

Do you have to clean the couplers separately, or have you connected it to one of those cleaning sockets?

Cheers

I clean the disconnects separately as I don't think the cleaner gets to every part but they are simple enough to disassemble. I like very little carbonation so am able to have very short beer lines so just replace every time I clean so it is really only the taps that get cleaned.

£6 for a pressure sprayer! I got mine for £2.50 in Wilko. I had a 1/2" barb to 3/8" JG fitting lying around so I used self amalgamating tape to attach this to the nozzle. Works a treat.

Hmm, empty Cornelius keg for me, with cleaner/starsan in. Whe the keg is finished, disconnect and run through with starsan til it runs clear. Done
