Flow control taps vs inline flow control

Trying to sort out flow control for the kegerator that I'm in the process of building

Perlick taps with flow control seem to be a fair amount more than 'standard' perlicks, so what's the advantage of flow control taps over inline flow control like this

I have an one on my maxi chiller. Works well.

So you can tweak flow from outside the kegerator rather than inside?
