Mistake or not

Post by cgbrown » Mon Aug 10, 2015 7:58 am

Hi guys,
On my second batch of home brew now and think I might have made a mistake
First batch was bottled larger and this was fine.
The batch I am on now is Geordie Yorkshire bitter, I have fermented for about 6 days and have transferred into barrel
I did not have a syphon tube so I placed barrel under the tap of first fv, and opened the tap and let it pour in.
I have since read that the beer will go off over a few days, is this correct, beer spoilt ? Or is there anything I can do to help it

Thanks in advance

As far as I see it, there's 2 ways it could go, all that splashing, while transfering would airate the wort, this may get used up by the yeast as you say it had been fermenting for 6 days. But if they have finished then the beer will have a taste to it. Which may make not so nice to drink.

I had a beer that got a metallic taste, that I put down to me doing the same/similar thing. I still drunk it as it was the only beer I had. But I was glad when I got another batch finished.

if you didn't already add a little priming sugar to knock the O2 out of the beer.
