Shank spacer for keg build taps

Post by Hodda » Tue Oct 27, 2015 10:56 pm

Hi All

Amongst other things Im trying to build a kegerator - I purchased a couple of taps from MM but the fridge door seems flimsy, now the options as I see it is either wood either side but hat doesn't stop the compression of the shank nuts squashing the door - Im thinking shank spacer in between lining of the door that way the compression of the bolts can compress this rather than bend the door.

Anyone done this or the like and would like to shed some light - my worry is that id have to cut a bigger hole to place in spacer and then when I compress, the tap could rotate with spacer in the hole.

On a previous build I glued some ply wood to the door then drilled the holes for the shank. The ply made it sturdy enough to hold the taps and bolt the shank to.

I used a sheet of stainless on the front and was going to use one inside to but ended up not needing it as my fridge door was quite stiff, how about some copper pipe to make your spacers get the closes fit to slip over your shanks and cut to length.

I used a piece of flooring laminate for a bit of rigidness, remember the shank is only to hold it in place and stop it spinning. No need to torque it up.
