Regulator ... With a psi gauge
Regulator ... With a psi gauge
Right people.... I'm trying to understand the wonderful world of regulators in terms of home brew. I've posted another thread around setting up some proper pumps etc. But I am getting very confused by my regulator. Firstly this is a new one given as a gift, as my previous one got damaged. Previous one had a screw to adjust the pressure in my keg and had a gauge using psi. This new one is clearly a welding regulator and has flow dial. This is not helpful to me in any way!!!! After wasting 30
Mins on google trying to find a regulator which measures the pressure at the keg side I have drawn a blank... Apart from stupidly expensive ones. I don't fancy the idea of another secondary pressure gauge, but quite like to invest in a regulator that is helpful in terms of psi.... And importantly connects directly to John guest fitting. I would be extremely grateful to anyone that can help. Thanks

Re: Regulator ... With a psi gauge
You just want a twin dial co2 reg. One dial will show bottle pressure. The other dial will show keg pressure. You'll probably need to order a JG fitting separately though. I can't remember the size you need.
Let's all go home, pull on our gimp suits and enjoy life

Cheers deadfall.... The dual dial one I have doesn't show psi on both co2 side and beer side.

Re: Regulator ... With a psi gauge
you can ebay a psi dial for less than a tenner, exchanging however could be a pita as the thread sealer used with regs sets solid, in order to remove the co2 in hose on my board i ended up with a 5ft steel tube lever slotted onto my wrench and a pal pushing the board in place on the wall so i didnt rip it off the wall before the seal finally gave.. you need to apply a fair amount of torque and unless you have a tight fitting wrench rounding the soft nut is very easy too..
SO.. add a few quid on a few bits n bobs and plumb the gauge inline off the reg outlet, the gauges are generally 1/4" bsp parallel thread.
A JG T or Y piece to break the 3/8" gas line for the gauge is needed

or

finding a female 1/4" bsp to JG 3/8" fitting isnt easy but a male for £3 was easy to fing on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOHN-GUEST-SP ... bfHXzQfGwQ
Just the first i found.. an example not a recommendation..
and a f/f 1/4" bsp barrel is easy to find too..
again just an example
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/B2-01000-Sock ... SwstxU5WZ0
a 0-30 psi gauge that would be great for setting precise pressures, just open the gas upto its limit and not above to avoid blowing it..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pressure-Gaug ... Vz4Dp6ZIhw
a gauge with a higher limit will have a more granular grade..

Re: Regulator ... With a psi gauge
if considering the additional inline gauge dont forget the ptfe tape to wrap both male threads with, dont be mean with it either, you can get special gas sealing tape but afaik its just a thicker version of the 50p plumbers tape, so use 2-3 times as much
stick a jg valve inline after the T/Y too, and you can remove the gauge for odd jobs like checking the pressure in off gas kegs sat maturing

I can do you one of these for £35 inc postage. Includes JG fitting.
No worries if not.

Re: Regulator ... With a psi gauge
I'm not sure - had a look at kegking website in Australia and I think they sell a similar one.
Basically you screw the nut (bottom right) onto you co2 cylinder and then push the beerline into the john guest fitting and you're sorted.
You can adjust pressure using the red knob. Pressure goes from 0-60PSI.
You can see the listing in my eBay shop here:

Re: Regulator ... With a psi gauge
I can't see that one on there. Anyway - the offer stands.
Re: Regulator ... With a psi gauge
A pressure regulator's a pressure regulator whether the gauges show PSI or CFM.
I'd just get a 0-4bar secondary gauge and just plumb it inline to be honest.
If you absolutely must have the pressure gauge on the regulator and can't be bothered changing the gauge over on the regulator you have then:
