I've moved into a flat at the top of a 3-floor older building, under the eaves, so it will likely get quite hot in summer. I've also lost the old keggerators and am not intending to get another whilst living here.
So, a question for people who have kept their stainless kegs in warm conditions, what can I expect in terms of the beer's shelf life?
Thanks
Kev
Shelf life of warm beer in stainless kegs?
Re: Shelf life of warm beer in stainless kegs?
How warm are you talking about? I've had bottles in my airing cupboard and plastic kegs in my kitchen through the summer. I didn't notice any problems. I think if you find a relatively cool dark place, you won't have problems. That said, I've had pressure barrels on the kitchen worksurface for months on end. No issues.

I won't really know how hot its going to be until I've been through a summer here, but the signs aren't encouraging so I expect it could get fairly oppressive - there doesn't seem to be much insulation in the roof and yet already it is much warmer than the floors below. There are no other/cooler places to move the beer to, unfortunately.
Obviously its not going to be great for the beer, but needs must. I just wonder how much it will likely shorten shelf life; I got several months to a year before but presumably it would be much less when warm.

Don;t know how accurate that is, can't remember where it was from
I've noticed beers tasting a lot better for a lot longer when refrigerated over just keeping them in the cupboard - that's hoppy ones, I'm sure stouts etc do better without being refrigerated

Ah, useful, thanks. Now I see that it does ring a small bell, but I too can't remember where from.
I guess it may depend on quite a lot of factors and yes I agree things like hop aroma will suffer (much) more quickly, but the shape of the curve is helpful. If one can trust the graph then it looks like (all else being equal), maybe 1/10th the shelf life that I'm used to could be expected in high summer; possibly about a month give or take.
Thanks.
