Beer Engine Water Jacket Cool

Hello,
I have a CQ Beer Engine with a water jacket. I have seen information on keeping the beer cool in the beer engine by using a pump to pump water from a cool fridge. I have also seen information that state a submersible pumps should not be used as it will heat up the water. Has anyone used a non submersible pump that can prime itself, as this can be an issue? If so I would be interested in getting information on this.

That doesn't look as though it has a python line, just two beer lines. You could get it to work, but you would need an external pump to pump the water around the circuit. Ones that have a python have an internal pump.

Would the Cornelius Maxi 110 as mentioned in the earlier post be what I should be looking for? Would one of these be expensive to run? I have a fridge in a garage adapted to keep the cask cool and have used it for two casks during the winter when the weather was cool. An alternative is to use an aquarium pump to keep the water jacket cool. I read somewhere that an internal aquarium pump can be used, but due to it being submerged in the water it would heat up the water. Therefore I was looking for an external pump that self primes. What would you suggest, a Cornelius Maxi 110 (available on ebay at reasonable price) or an external pump? Would you be aware of any external pump that could be used?

I don't know whether this would be of interest to you but I'm working on building a small water cooler for using with a cask probe, the principle works on the same as a glycol chiller but cheaper and simpler, it would work with a beer engine water jacket too.

I doubt it would heat up the water very much. Don't forget fish don't like it too hot either, so any heating effect will be negligible.

Yes I would be interested to hear more of your glycol chiller. What is a cask probe?

you will see the difference between internal and external pumps. I believe it will raise the water to a high temperature, which is why a chiller may have to be used.

Mine is not a glycol chiller but operates on the same principle using water, glycol adds extra cost for not much more benefit. The whole thing would fit in a small counter top freezer or larder fridge, you would have to measure a regular fridge or find a suitable shape reservoir.
