HELP!! How do I set up the cooler and lager pump?

Post by Liz » Tue Jul 12, 2016 9:29 pm

Hi, I have bought a cornelius maxi cooler, a lager tap and lots of pipes/connectors but have no idea at all how to connect all this stuff together!

I also have a beer pump for non pressurised beer but am clueless here too!

What I need is an idiots guide to getting up and running and I am hoping someone who knows more then me can help!

Thank you.... I am super excited about having a mini shed pub but have realised I have no idea what I am doing and this is all quite complicated!

When I googled "cornelius maxi cooler" the second result was a manual. Start there and come back with any questions.

Depending on the model number, I would assume (hope) you may have bought a 110,210,310

First off does the thing work? On the front of the cooler is a drain plug, remove this, on top of the cooler is a port to top up the water in the cooling reservoir, pour cold tap water into this port once it starts to overflow out of the drain plug, refit plug and stop adding water.

Depending on what model you have, it may or may not have a python pump, this pump outlet and inlet is normally the top 2 pipes. Easiest way to determine if there is a python pump is to switch on the machine, did you get wet? If yes = python pump fitted, simply connect the top 2 ports with a piece of beerline. If no = no pump fitted or it has seized, or there is already a piece of pipe connecting the pump.

Approx. 30mins after you have switched on the maxi the tap water you placed in the machine should be colder than before, put a thermometer into the port to determine temperature.

If everything is working the maxi will get down to temperature & a thermostat should auto cycle the machine to achieve a constant cooling reserve.

Now onto cooling there will be at least 2, 4 , 6 maybe 8 pipes left on the front of the machine, these are merely coils sitting in the bath/tank of cold water, there are in pairs (in & out).

So to get cold beer connect up the beer to one side of coil and if under pressure it should squirt out the other side of the coil, connect this to a beer tap. If the beer isn't under pressure you will need to pump it through the cooling coil.

I would recommend you clean the coils (internally) before starting.

What are you dispensing from? ie corny kegs or sankey kegs. What model is the maxi chiller? I assume you just want to be able to serve cold beer from a keg thats stored ot room/shed temp.
