Beer line pump

Post by mosquat » Thu Aug 04, 2016 7:44 pm

Hello all,

What are people using to pump cleaner around their beer lines??

I have everything I need to connect up the lines but cant find a pump, have a 1/2 outlet on submersible but my lines are 3/16...

Cheers all!

Carl

Many people don't pump the cleaner, especially with the purple stuff. They pull/push rinse water through the lines (just as they would with beer), do the same with cleaner and let it sit for a while, repeat if necessary, and then follow with more rinse water.

I did recirculate cleaner through mine once in a while too though, using PBW. I used a bucket with a bottom outlet to feed an old totton sp20/12 pump (if I'm remembering the number correctly) but almost any old pump would probably work if it can push against reasonable restriction of the long/narrow lines, though as you suggest 3/8" push fit adaptors may be needed.

I've just used my cornie for the first time but when it was empty I washed it out, filled a third full with PBW, connected up, gassed with a few psi and ran through the tap and beer lines. After giving the cornie a really good rinse I did the same with water to rinse the beer lines. I will probably run a little Starsan through it prior to refilling in the same way.

It works fine but I don't know how much Co2 I'm wasting as I'm only on my first bottle. I think some people modify a garden sprayer to save gas.

Cheers all, think I'm going to try and wedge some tubes together to make some sort of connection, expect my shed will be covered in line cleaner soon

the bargain basement line cleaner is a pneumatic pressure gardeners sprayer, bodge a connection from the spray head hose to a disconnect or beerline ;)

However like the above i tend to clean my line/tap with the keg recently removed from the line.

As i tend to connect a clean and sanitised keg/disconnect to a clean and sanitised line and leave the keg online till drained without any disconnects/keg swaps i treat my line upto tap point as an extension of the keg so do not perform regular line cleaning.

Spouts however do need a regular flush as the residue and what thrives on it can build up significantly.. One very sweet gingerbeer was ontap for ages only used for a cooking liquor, one day it didnt pour, shock/horror the tap spout was bunged up with ??????.. hence my preference for black plastic dalex style taps with screw off spouts i can unscrew and soak between serving sessions..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Intertap taps are good as they have removable spouts and are forward sealing. Also I've seen rubber caps that can be placed over the end of the spout to keep nasties out
