Plastic Beer Bottles
I've been considering getting one of these Pegas style taps for bottling my beer.
I see that you can use plastic bottles in them and by adapting a washer you can do glass too.
Does anyone here use plastic bottles? I've seen some Coopers ones taht look nice.
Also I've not been able to find an active link to the how-to for the fabrication of the washer thingamebob.
Anyone know how to make one?
Thanks!

Re: Plastic Beer Bottles
I don't have a Pegas type of tap, but I do use Coopers plastic bottles (bought from Tesco). Absolutely fine in my experience, had no problems at all with them.

Re: Plastic Beer Bottles
Self life of a pegas bottled beer is suggested at upto 3 weeks iirc*, so perhaps not a full batch solution. Great however when fitted with a pass thru tap
since it gives you the opportunity to fill bright bottles on the fly when wanting to take a few pints further afield.
what you want for the washer is to cut a notch out so that it slips round the neck of a bottle, the washer then sits under the bottle lip and inside the pegas bottle grip so the bottles mouth is sealed for filling.
* That may be due to the retail beer shop model with unsanitary customer supplied bottles tho??

Re: Plastic Beer Bottles
Thanks. As you say, it’s not a solution for a whole batch - I’m looking for a way to bottle for mates and when I can be bothered to use my chiller - I’ve got 4 cornies so will be filling from them anyway.
I looked for the plastic bottles on the Tesco website but discontinued.
Anywhere else sell them?

I was originally thinking AliExpress but then I've seen a lot of issues with cracked bodies etc so was thinking the chap that runs the Pegas.lt site.
What do you think?

Re: Plastic Beer Bottles
Exactly that. his email address is info@pegas.lt. Worth asking him for a quote. The AliExpress ones have had issues in the past, don't know about recently, but the genuine Eco version is really worth the money in my view, but it is a lot more.BritishBelgianTwst wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 11:21 amI was originally thinking AliExpress but then I've seen a lot of issues with cracked bodies etc so was thinking the chap that runs the Pegas.lt site.

I bought one of the Eco taps from Pegas a few weeks ago and it is a lovely bit of kit. It has been upgraded to chrome and black and is very well made. As Orlando says just email for a quote on the model you want and Arturas will get back to you with a price including shipping and taxes.orlando wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 2:05 pmExactly that. his email address is info@pegas.lt. Communication is excellent although a bit of googling translation came in handy as the invoice was in Lithuanian. I used Transferwise to send the money to them, which they recommended (this is where the translation was required to enter the correct bank details)
Mine came with a spare set of seals. I get the impression after sales service would be very good as well.
They work great with Coopers PET bottles and will bottle fully carbed beers with a minimum of froth. You can use other plastic /PET bottles as long as they have a similar ridge to the coopers ones. I have yet to make a washer for glass bottles (I may not even bother

I liked the look of the ones that had a tap as well but unfortunately these wouldn't suit my system, but would be great if starting from scratch.
Personally I would buy the genuine article and support a company that is actually interested in the products they sell.

Re: Plastic Beer Bottles
I have one that sounds very similar to the one you describe and it does have the ability to have a tap attached to it. I didn't know they did one that doesn't.

Photo of the Eco tap.
I made a stand up from bits I had lying around. next time I would use a heavier/larger base.

Re: Plastic Beer Bottles
I’ve got the Pegas Steel and it makes bottling a joy compared to carbonation caps.
I had a couple of queries post-delivery and Arturas was very quick to help.
