Re: Bag in a box dispensing (Beer Engine)
I know the feeling. I failed this week and had to get one.Titch wrote:thanks but you now have me NEEDING a hand pull pump
Currently I have a beer line coming from a keg out the side of the fridge into a demand valve and then into the Beer Engine. The plan is I will have a polypin on the bottom shelf of the fridge connected to the Beer Engine, then 4 kegs on the top shelf can all be connected to the taps on the front of the fridge. 5 beers on tap

Just use a standard polypin, one tube direct from pin to hand pump.

I have ordered 2 x 20 litre polypins. My plan is just to connect polypin direct to beer engine.Dennis King wrote:Just use a standard polypin, one tube direct from pin to hand pump.
Just need to order some nice silicon hose from V.

Yes I use Murphy cellabrite auxiliary finings that and only that. Yeast and proteins drop like a stone beautiful bright beer in a day.timbo41 wrote:great post sticky please mods.
Also, not being greatly familiar with these bags, can you use finings in them, and do you totally fill or leave a.little.headspace for whatever co2 is produced during conditioning
Cheers
There's plenty room in the bag to bleed off any co2 should it billow out. It actually tells you how to do it in the FAQ on their website.

Polypins work just as we'll but the reason I moved to bag in a box is purely for the simplicity of not having to clean and sanitise after each use. Just chuck it away and use a new one for the next brewRunwell-Steve wrote:I have ordered 2 x 20 litre polypins. As JMC said You can dispense through the tap on its own but there's not enough pressure to serve through a dalex tap even with gravity.jmc wrote:Others with direct experience may know for sure but as pressure is normally minimal in bag-in-a -box, I think it may struggle to push beer out via beer tube and Dalex.Deebee wrote:would this work on a dalx tap or are we dependant on a beer engine to pull the beer through. DAMN... another thing for the I must have list
It 'might' work with gravity if box above Dalex tap though.
A beer engine sucks the bag flat here's what the bag looks like when empty (these are 10ltr bags in the picture)

Re: Bag in a box dispensing (Beer Engine)
How long can you keep beer in these?
Re: Bag in a box dispensing (Beer Engine)
About the same as polypins. I've had beer in these bags for around a month, the last pint being as good as the first. Here's a cut N paste from their websiteHanglow wrote:How long can you keep beer in these?
Shelf life depends on many variables, alcohol content, percentage sugar, cleanliness at fill, size of the bag, dissolved oxygen in the product and headspace in the sealed bag. However over and above all of these in importance is storage temperature, essentially the higher the storage temperature the shorter the shelf life. In short, shelf life will vary from and it’s advisable to run a trial or two on your own products.
Beer – we did some tests a few years ago with a local brewery and we achieved 6 – 8 weeks shelf life unopened on an IPA(3.9%) & Best Bitter (4.3%), we imagine it’s less if you open it first. The beer does lose a little liveliness but this is not significant if you pull it through a hand pump.
Cider – some makers who pasteurize & hot fill achieve at least a year’s shelf life in bag in box. Those who don’t pasteurize achieve months in the summer but twice this in the winter.
