Essex C02 bottles
Re: Essex C02 bottles
It's funny seeing people going for welding gas to get brewing CO2. One of my other hobbies is building cars and for MIG welding lots of my fellow enthusiasts use "pub gas" CO2 on the basis that it's cheaper than buying welding gas bottles.
So which is it eh? Is brewing gas cheaper or welding gas? Or the other way round? Or does it depends purely on your supplier?
At work we have a BOC account so I'm going to see if I can get some through them. And possibly if they'll refill my O2 cylinder. As of yet I haven't bothered using for a brew.... If it ain't broke and all that.

Probably a bit late now (sorry) but I use G&G gallows in Braintree. IRC it's a £16 deposit and about £14 a fill for a 6.5kg bottle
Re: Essex C02 bottles
In my experience BOC will only fill there own bottles and only exchange cylinders registered to your account. You would have to sign up to 12month rental, lots of the pub places seem to let you have the cylinder of gas for a one off fee but they still own it

I emailed G&G, but they said that they can supply gas to account customers
I assume that you must have an account then Joe?

I had to give the, some details, they may have set up an account I think butt hey only took my address. I pay by card as and when I need a new bottle. I would think you can do the same. I think I have some emails at work I'll dig out.

Re: Essex C02 bottles
I popped in there last week, and they still aren't taking on people like me, as I would have the bottle for too long and they say that they would have to keep paying rental on the bottle and wouldn't make any money, which is fair comment.joe1002 wrote:I had to give the, some details, they may have set up an account I think butt hey only took my address. So the hunt still carries on locally (ideally)

Any other suggestions in the Essex area would be greatfully received before I have to shell out more cash on a more national company?
Cheers

Hi Stefan,
Might be worth extending your search area to Suffolk/ Ipswich area as you are only half hour or so away from there. Cheers John

Hmm, my bottle is near empty so I am going to have to take it down there in a few weeks for a full one, wonder whether I'll be successful.Monkeybrew wrote:I popped in there last week, and they still aren't taking on people like me, as I would have the bottle for too long and they say that they would have to keep paying rental on the bottle and wouldn't make any money, which is fair comment.joe1002 wrote:I had to give the, some details, they may have set up an account I think butt hey only took my address. Any Essex Brewers struggling to get hold of food grade CO2 I notice adams gas.co.uk supply for home bar use. Website lists stockists local to you. West Thurrock seems to be the only Essex stockist. For north Essex there is a stockist near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk which may be closer depending where you are.
6.35kg cylinder £55 deposit, £18.80+vat refill.
Cheers John

Cheers John, I had bookmarked their site the other day after you suggested looking in that direction.Maldon John wrote:Any Essex Brewers struggling to get hold of food grade CO2 I notice adams gas.co.uk supply for home bar use. Apols for yet another belated reply. If you can get to W Essex/outer London, Eastenders Cash and Carry has a Barking branch. It's a £10 deposit and £18 refill, so £28 for your first cylinder. Website http://www.eastendersplc.co.uk/
Cheers,
Chris
