Me again :)

Now Ive bit the bullet and bought a couple , here another question ,

1. can you connect the keg connector and just carb up without beer coming out of top spout , would this have to be blanked
2. where would I get spare seals from ?

1. No. You must blank it or you will beer coming out.
2. I don't know. I was trying to find a source and in the end a kind person on here sent me some for free! Crusader should be able to provide them but they didn't answer their phone or respond to emails.

A 5p piece does well as a blanking plug

What spare seals are you after ?

Crusader or brewuk may be able to get them
I've successfully cleaned them without removing the spear though

I've removed the spear every time I've refilled them for over 2 years. On the same set of seals. It's only a large O ring anyway.

When Crusader were supplying the kegs direct they gave me a sh!t load of the seals and the thick rubber seals that go inside the spear. They are so hard wearing that I would never use them all in 10 lifetimes!

And I just remembered, when Crusader sent me the spares they were actually sent from this place http://www.192.com/atoz/business/shrews ... 3054/comp/

Might have more luck contacting them. Sister company maybe??

Guys are the 20l kegs much wider than corneys?

Answer:

Crusader keg: Diameter: 233mm
AEB Corney Keg: Diameter: 219mm

So I wouldn't get 4 crusaders in my fridge :(

A bit late to the discussion but i use crusader keg's in the Hotpoint RLA36G fridge. 2 can fit in there. I use a S type coupler with no vent so put a in line valve. I tend not to need to vent, i don't force carb as i still prime with 50g sugar and that normally gets the pressure to just over 1 bar where i keep it for dispensing.

I've still got to fit the tap to the door though.

Got 2 in my RLA fridge too.

Testing out my new setup a few years back:

Still using the same connector to purge and degas.

This was when we didn't have access to the connectors with a pressure release so we were all coming up with ways of doing it. My solution was to remove the 1 way valves from the gas in and beer out. I then fitted the 1 way valve from the gas in to the beer out and added the ball valves. I then connected the gas line to the beer out so I can insert gas through the spear and degas from the 'gas in' side without the risk of spraying beer everywhere. The 1 way valve I put on the beer out is to stop any beer coming back through if there is no gas pressure. Ball valves are cheap enough on ebay and this works like a charm!

Of course, if you didn't want to purge the keg you can just use the coupler, below, (not connected to gas) to put on the keg to just degas it.

And if you want to ruff it, just lay the empty keg on its side and connect an unmodified coupler which will degas it with minimal risk of a beer shower.
