He's not got his setup yet however I have and I use 5/16 with flow control. And I suspect that just using 3/8 would be a lot harder. The flow control works really well but on the tap where I only have a shorter length of 5/16 I do have to reduce the flow down quite a bit which although it works just fine does slow down the pour. I've come to the conclusion that having a smaller bore more flexible line that drops the psi down to roughly where you need to be or just over where you need to be is a good idea with the flow control to finish it off. That's what I did on my other flow control tap and it works fantastically with a fast pour.donchiquon wrote:Hi f00b4rf00b4r wrote:I actually ordered some Oetiker clips and tool from Brew UK , so where I can use standard 3/8 beer line with flow control taps I should avoid any issues. I will try the JG fittings on the more lively beers.
Are you using 3/8 line exclusively with your flow control taps? How do you find it?
I've got 3 Perlicks with flow control and was wondering whether I would need to use a "sandwich" of 3/16 line to control head or whether I could get away with 3/8.

fwiw i have 3 x dalex flow control taps all fed with 3/8" line from the keg, they are great as is for serving lower conditioned beers with a serving pressure upto 6-8psi (going by the reg reading..) however at 8psi and above they are impossible to set so need a tweak with every pour never quite hitting the sweetspot where they can be left as is.
I do have to restrict some pours significantly so its a case of flip the tap with the glass under and let it pour itself
but that suits me fine.. i get a wee kick watching a pint fill the glass

Would get that same kick myself if I had got around to fitting a drip tray but currently have to hold the glass

I've got perlicks with flow control using 3/8 beer line, really needed the flow control at first but once you get your head round the psi to temp physics you don't need flow control, it's satisfying when you learn the sweet spot

Thanks demig, Fil, and Stanna!
After much reflection and a couple of pints of Landlord clone I decided to have a go with JG fittings, and for the sake of a few extra quid I'm going to buy some 5/16 line and play around with one tap on 5/16 and another on just 3/8.
How much 5/16th line should I plan on putting between tap and disco to start with? 2m?

Compared to the pint of foam that I get from a PB that looks just grand!Fil wrote:fwiw i have 3 x dalex flow control taps all fed with 3/8" line from the keg, they are great as is for serving lower conditioned beers with a serving pressure upto 6-8psi (going by the reg reading..) however at 8psi and above they are impossible to set so need a tweak with every pour never quite hitting the sweetspot where they can be left as is.

Just as good as anything served at The Cricketers or the Cape of Good Hope! (if I remember rightly from my school days!)
