If you like camping and home brew beer - have you signed up for this years Home Brew Festival yet?

No I haven't. To be honest, what I've seen from previous Spring Things (and I don't want to come across a dick) it all looks a bit 'low rent'. Having just been on the website it looks a lot more appalling! Alas, it's the wife's birthday that weekend and don't think it'll go down too well, maybe next year!

I'm comfortable bottling but would be delighted if I could find a simple hassle free way of getting some sediment free beers that I could take out.

I would use a 9l corny and jump the beer from a full size keg to draw it off the sediment and in to the clean 9l litre corny. This should give you beer that settles bright straight away after you move it, especially if the beer has been in the original keg for a while giving the sediment chance to pack down hard. If you want to go the extra mile then get one of those filter housings and fit that between the two kegs during transfer. Then I would get a half size pub gas cylinder for the C02 as it's a sensible size and doesn't weigh so much. For cooling perhaps one of those blankets that go in the fridge or freezer and wrap round the keg.

Alas I've gone down the cheapskate route for this weekend, a couple of these though I've just had a pay rise so I a 9l corny is on the horizon

It is indeed a bell tent. The wife suggested one a few years back and I was sceptical (former Royal Marine so I'm happy under a poncho, this seemed extravagant) but I love it! Ours is 4 metres and is fine for both of us plus the two sprogs (ages 1 and almost 3). When it starts to get a bit cost for us all as the kids grow I'll put the oldest in his own tent.

any criticism can become positive feedback - the committee already think that the website needs a better hosting solution/redesign, to look more professional, and we are a lot more professional now than a few years ago when it was just 'a piss up in a field'.

You can be member without going to the festival - we're planning on doing member only offers throughout the year, so that membership becomes a lot more worthwhile.

I've only just found out about this as well. What sort of a festival is it? Are there stalls for buying kit etc or just an opportunity for everyone to get together and share their creations. Guessing it's not one to bring the kids too

The festival is a great time to socialise, and enjoy some great beer. Bridgewater Brewing will have a stall with their range of brewing equipment etc. The competition is held in the rugby club and we have a few lectures in the marquee on Saturday morning and early afternoon. In the main marquee we have the famous home brew bar with about 10 different beers on tap, plus bottles of beer to try and wines. In the evenings there is a quiz on Friday and a band on Saturday. There is a caterer on site who do some great food, at reasonable prices. So all in all a great weekend. We have had kids there, but to be honest there is not much to keep the kids occupied, but they are welcome and there is no charge for children.
