Corny keg gas.
Re: Corny keg gas.
I just want a basic set up whilst i get my head around the whole kegging thing. A party tap seems a good choice to begin with and seems to be recommended over a tap that attaches directly to the keg. With the right amount and type of beer line it seems to work well fir beginners with little foaming issues. I would leave getting a fancy tap until later as a possible upgrade.
Looking at all the parts separately with postage costs does not seem any cheaper than buying a basic set up with everything i need apart from gas and beer.

The links supplied do come to slightly more than a full basic setup. I guess that's the advantage of a package deal.

OK. Got a great deal from Ashley Gas in Sunderland. 6.35kg bottle. £40 refundable deposit and a tenner to refill. Ordered the used keg set from the Malt Miller and looking forward to dipping my toes in the mysterious world of corny kegs. Just a thanks to everyone who replied to me, its very much appreciated.

Good choice. For what it is worth, don't be disheartened if you make a mistake first time round. I still make plenty, but they are worth the investment.

good to hear your sorted.. let the good times begin..
its easy to overcondition if using high pressures, to loose the excess condition shake n vent the keg a number of times.. no biggy just costs a few extra p's worth of co2..

Thinks for the tip. Can't wait to brew a beer and get kegging..... Now to find an under counter fridge....

I've got a spare fridge, but I guess I'm too far away in south Yorkshire!rcammish wrote:Thinks for the tip. Can't wait to brew a beer and get kegging..... Now to find an under counter fridge....

Just slightly..! I've been to see a few but the raised platform at the bottom of the fridge mean it is too small. Hopefully something will come up soon.

Re: Corny keg gas.
as a short term solution if you can freeze a shed load of ice, simply sit the keg in ice .. one benefit of the bottom draw via a dip tube is if you sit the keg in a bowl of ice for 20-30 minutes the bottom will be chilled ready to draw
a more sophisticated take is a jockey box which is similar to a shelf chiller but without the compressor, again relying on manual water/ice exchange inside..
short term solutions while the keg fridge is sorted
