Kent - Where to get CO2?

Post by Cpt.Frederickson » Mon Feb 24, 2014 2:39 pm

I'm just getting my first keg setup underway and have been steadily accumulating kit for some time now, so the main thing left for me to purchase is of course, a bottle of CO2 to get the whole thing going.
I've hunted around the forum a bit and searched the internet to no avail!

IS THERE ANYWHERE OTHER THAN ADAMS GAS IN THIS POXRIDDEN COUNTY?!

Glad I got that off my chest. While I've heard they're very good, in order to make the purchase worthwhile I want to get one of the 3.15kg cylinders, rather than the 1.5kg one. But to my calculations the 1.5kg works out nearly £70 (incl £25 deposit) and the 3.15kg is nearer £140! For that I might as well go for the really big bottle because the price difference is negligible, but I haven't got the room for one of the big'uns nor do I fancy hauling it down to the basement...

Any suggestions? Where else do others get theirs? I gather some use Adams but there must be alternatives that are cheaper [-o<

How far are you prepared to travel to obtain said cylinder ? I might be able to point you at full sized pub cylinders at a very good price....

Cheers Pinto, but full size it a bit too big, limited space and all :(
Best I could manage would be a half size one but should be able to travel if one of those is a possibility?

I'm including the £55 deposit they want as well and going by their website prices. I know I get it back, but lets face it, that cash will be gone for the duration!
Did you buy as 'trade' rather than 'home bar'? There seems to be a ridiculous difference in price betwen the two. Cheeky so and so's. May have an alternative now but i'm curious...

I also use Adams and had the same experience as legion. The higher price they quote for the new home bar cylinders includes the deposit. All you've got to add is the VAT and delivery.

My experience of them is really positive. They are helpful on the phone and are accommodating with deliveries (you can ask them to pick up and drop unattended cylinders in the strangest of places to keep them safe if you're not around to take delivery). Also I can't really blame them for the higher prices for home bar users. The rate we get through the cylinders means that they don't make much on regular refills and the cylinders are out of action for months...

Two weeks ago I purchased a 14lb full bottle from Kent Drinks for £30 inc VAT. that was for the bottle and the Gas.

I am sure that he does smaller bottles too. Once you have a bottle then of course you will only pay for the refill with him, which I believe is around £14. for 14lb.

The owner was very friendly and helpful and always phones back if you call him and he is unavailable.

Highly Recommended.

Looks like I'm sorted, Kent Drinks it is. Awesome price. Pinto's supplier was even better, but with the travel a bit more hassle. Cheers all.

To update, still no cylinder...Kent Drinks have turned out to be p***ks! Guy is initially responsive to emails then ignores. May give him a call, but I'd rather deal with somone else I reckon!
