Best use for an empty cornie - smple top tip

Post by lancsSteve » Fri Apr 25, 2014 10:43 pm

I can'r be the first to figure this but seemes worth sharing. I don't have time to brew as much as I;d like so I often had an empty cornie - till I clocked the best use for it.

Fill it with water, gas it up to ~30psi and you have soda water on tap :-) they are basically the woldrlds biggest soda stream after all.

But that's not the best use of it - end of an evening disconnect your other keg lines and hook them up, run the wter through and you've cleared your lines of beer and helped keep them clean - now THAT'S a good use! And no more wasted beer in the lines either or crud build up. Simples but effective and better than an empty one standing idle.

Hi Are there no ill effects on the stainless by keeping starsan permanently in there?
no palate, no patience.

When a corny on my bar runs out, I rinse it out the sucssesivly I clean corny and line with water, Purple line cleaner, water then finish with starsan.

Line cleaned and corny ready for filling.

I've been doing this for a couple of years now and cornys are fine.

SS is attacked by chlorine based cleaners which can cause pitting so I wouldn't leave the purple line cleaner in there, but starsan is fine

I've had a keg of water since I got a set of taps. It's great especially if you get your hands on post-mix syrup.
