Possibly a stupid question, brass fitting and sanitisation.

I just got a lid for my pressure barrel that takes the co2 bulbs and obviously I need to sanitise it before use. Being as I have never sanitised brass, I am wary of using my normal bleach solution. Is bleach safe on brass, or do I need to find an alternative method?

I was thinking about this as I prepared a keg last night. In the end I took it all apart, cleaned with warm soapy water and kitchen roll, then rinsed in cold water and reassembled, wiping again with kitchen roll. I'm pretty sure the cleaner steriliser from wilkinsons (youngs?) is not good on brass. I think starsan is ok though.
