Cornie newbie

Post by Maldon John » Fri Jul 25, 2014 5:51 pm

So I have finally got round to filling one of my new cornie kegs with a pale ale (which have been sitting in the corner of my garage for months). What's the procedure for carbonation of my beer. I have gassed to 30psi, shaken the cornie for 5minutes(I assume helps saturates the beer with Co2),disconnected the gas and placed in a temperature controlled fridge at 12c or should this be lower.? How long for? Then I should drop the pressure before serving I believe? And reconnect the gas (5psi?)whilst drinking?I have also heard that the air should be purged out after the initial gassing, which I previously did with my king keg barrel. Loads of questions.Advice appreciated for a cornie virgin

I carbonate my by pushing 30 psi of co2 in keg lying keg on the floor I rock it back and forth for 1 minute then shut the gas off after a couple of hours release the pressure in keg and push 2 psi back in for serving carbonation sorted .

That's what I do but others will have different ways it works for me

yup different ways
1 set pressure to what you want to serve at and wait about 1 week.
2 set pressure at what you want to serve carbonate to psi then close gas , shake for a few minutes and watch the gas gauge it will fall as you shake the corny after a minute or two open gas and repeat close, shake ,keep doing this until until the gas pressure no longer drops
. see here for gas pressure/temperature
