Hi,

No need to prime with sugar. I just gas mine up to 30psi and leave it for a few days (remember to vent the keg a few times to clear any oxygen).

Then I set it to serving pressure bad away you go.

I know others will do things differently but that's my way.

No sugar in a corny for me either. I just give it a good clean them rinse and sanitise with starsan. I push the starsan out by connecting up the co2 and pushing the starsan out through the tap.

This leaves a keg full of CO2.

Then fill with beer. The keg only had CO2 on it so no need to purge the air out.

Once full I set it at 10psi and leave it for a week or so to carbonate.

Then enjoy.

+1 to the above, you can prime and condition in a corny but you just end up pulling an extra dirty pint at the start as your dropping more sediment in the keg, and as your drawing from the bottom you cant avoid the sediment. And you wait even longer before you can start to sample.. if your regulator reads in bars and not psi you can fit a second psi pressure gauge fitted inline in the gas line post the regulator, just branch off with a T or Y to feed the gauge.
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

How do you fill at this stage Growling Dog ? I thought you then de - pressurize, take the lid off & then fill

You do. De pressurise. Take the lid of and fill. CO2 is heavier than air so even with the lid off all that's in the keg is CO2, It can't get out. Obviously don't turn the keg upside down.
Don't leave the lid off for ages either. Take the lid off and fill straight away then replace the lid and pressurise.

Thanks for making it clear.
is it OK to syphon straight from the FV into the corny ? as said above & i dont want lots of sediment coming up from bottom (I do crash cool in the FV for a few days)

Yes! I crash cool for 2-3 days at 10-11C to let the yeast drop out.

Another thing to consider is you need a fairly long length of serving tube before the tap, otherwise you end up with a pint full of foam. The long tube increases the pressure drop between the keg and the tap. The length required varies depending on the serving temperature and pressure. Less pressure and colder gives less chance of foam. If you condition for a week at too high a pressure then there will be more CO2 in solution and again more chance of foaming. It could take a bit of trial and error to find what's right for you. Just giving you a heads-up!

Thanks Cestrian, I will be using a party tap with 12" of tube until I finish the kegerator, so the longer the tube the better !

I prime in the corny. Always have, always will most likely.

I have found that it is very easy to overprime the keg though so in a 19 litre corny I use around 75 g sugar.

in a smaller 10 l I use maybe 30, in a 12 around 33

I have cut the diptubs down by about 5 m so they do not touch the bottom as well so I never get a dirty first pint. I might get a cloudy one right at the end when I blast co2 in but it is still drinkable.

As regards to gassing. I gas to get the seal, then vent to purge, repeat a couple og times then leave the keg sealed without gas and that's it.

Works fine for me.
