One of those nights...

Post by mozza » Thu Sep 25, 2014 10:06 pm

I've never had a problem with my old king kegs until late. I've got two kolch's in them and I've been trying to force carb them with my makeshift setup.

About a week ago I had a slow leek and tracked it down to my tyre valve being buggered  changed that and re-gassed.
Everything was fine for a few days and then checked the pressure again and would you believe it? Another leak! On closer inspection the actual cap had cracked at the threads! I normally reem them up but you don't expect that! Changed the cap and checked them both today and the previously good keg was flat!

:( :( :(

After a couple of pints and staring at the bloody thing I worked out the only thing it could be is the relief valve rubber band. So I've changed that after by some miracle finding a spare one in my box of tricks.

I'm pretty sure it was the culprit as before, it would start to vent at 9psi but with my new one fitted it gets to 15psi before expanding.

So anyways, that's been my evening. Oh and I went to pour a pint from my sankey keg after not using it for a few weeks and the bloody sparkler is all clogged up! Turns out I can pour a much better pint without the little thing so no harm done!

If I get another leak I'm gonna cry!
Cheers and gone,

Mozza

Yeah, far to many things all going wrong at once!

However, I'm about to use my KingKeg for the first time in years (trying to stick to the letter of the recipe for a Ditch's stout) and I you've reminded me that I really ought to change all of the seals before I do, so thanks for posting. =D>
