Force carbing question

Post by Rov'rumBrewhouse » Thu Nov 06, 2014 10:27 pm

I recently kegged a brew for the first time in a 50 litre keg and I just want to compare my approach to others. I have used the chart http://www.kegerators.com/carbonation-table.php to get the correct pressure which for my garage 20 PSI keeps it in a good range. I bought 5 metres of 3/8 tube for the gas and with only having one keg (for now) I've left it as a full length. Now where I think my approach may differ, I leave all the system connected but turn off the supply at the tank and at the regulator. Mainly in paranoia that with a first set up I don't know if there are any leaks. Anyway, everyday I have opened the regulator valve which has then vented in the gas stored in the tube and then I open the CO2 again to pressurise then turn everything off again. The keg is now settling and almost up to pressure only dropping to 18-19 PSI before I open valves.

Is my approach similar to others? Or do others simply set and leave everything on? Or gas up then disconnect everything then reconnect when ready for drinking?

I used some of my daughters bubble mixture to check for any leaks in the system and then just left the gas on. I did find one little leak where I hadn't pressed a tube fully into a john guest fitting.
