Bottle Washing gear broken !

Post by roscoe » Wed Nov 12, 2014 5:29 pm

hmmmm, up till this week I've been a happy bottle washing camper, but the gadgets are plastic and just don't last long at all, a few months at best or guessing approaching a 1000 bottles. Thats all I have bottled in my brewing lifetime of just over a year.

1. Fermtech single blast bottle washer
its the plastic one and it doesn't generate a pointy spray when a bottle is pushed down
so frustrating this was a really neat unit when it work reliably

2. Vinator spray gadget thing that sits on top of the bottle tree
again plastic, the starsan seems to be escaping, cracks appeared on base of the unit,
so it still works just needs more regular topups

3. Bench capper
again still works great, but the little cap magnet seems to have fallen off somewhere.

......... all the stuff under year old.

any advice for something a little more sturdy without breaking the bank :(

I stick mine in the dishwasher my normal bottle cleaner. Stick it on a 70 degree wash.

I have a spray bottle of starsan so when the bottle is washed, I check to makesure its clean, starsan it prime it and cap it.

Done.

Save up enough bottles so you get a machine full.
have been doing this for years with no adverse effect on either machine or sanitation.

I doubt if the dishwasher spray will get properly inside the bottles to wash them. The outsides will be nice and clean though. Of course if you've already rinsed them well and starsan them before filling, everything will be fine.

Actually i have washed bottles that people have given me. These have had a cake of yeast of mould on the bottom and they come out fine.
Must be 3 years or so since i started
