To reseed or not to reseed...

Post by gibbiem » Wed Dec 10, 2014 9:03 pm

Thats the question....

My big black balls thread, not sure if I should reseed fresh yeast or not. It's in secondary now, clearing nicely and dry hopping. Gonna crash chill for a week then bottle. The beer is about 9.3% abv so wondering if the yeast will be too tired to carb. I'm thinking about crash chilling then adding a small amount of fresh yeast with sugar to the bottling bucket but never done it before so after some advice??

Cheers

Go for it, your beer sounds like its been conditioning for a while and also you're going to crash cool it.

I would use about 60g of sugar in some water, bring to the boil, add to bottling bucket and add beer.
All I do is sprinkle a few grams of Nottingham Ale Yeast on the top as the bottling bucket is filling.

Its done the job so far

That's exactly what I don't mate ha ha. Just thought I would guesstimate. I added the yeast to the sugar water though and then to the bottling bucket and filled it. How long do you normal leave it? Been in the bottle since Thursday

Left at an ambient temp it should be ready to drink in 1-2 weeks, I dont like priming using sugar normally as the beer becomes overly fizzy but done at this rate it seems to work well

Nice one. Opened a bottle last night and still flat so gave them all a shake and will test again next week
