No Head
No Head
Hi,
Brewed my first all grain and made Bass.
It's in a corny with 14psi CO2 on top of it, but when served there's no head but is fizz to taste.
It's served through the smaller tubing 6ft then through a flow control tap which the flow was low on the highest setting.
I've reduced the smaller tubing to 4 ft and it serves a pint in a reasonable time now but still no head.
Does anyone know what my issue is?

Re: No Head
Looks flat to me, may require longer in the keg. Also, make sure your glass is clean and doesn't have any soap residue as that can kill the head.
As a starting point carb it longer. Is the corny temp controlled?

Re: No Head
Corny is in a fridge controlled by an stc1000, I've been shaking the keg to get it to absorb so I'll wait a few more days see what it's like then
Re: No Head
I've just kegged my first beer. I force carb'd at about 25 psi, left over night, purged, left again, purged and serve at about 3 psi and its perfect

Re: No Head
I've never done the shake method. I normally hit it with 30psi for 2 days and then left it at serving pressure. Just remember the colder it is, it will absorb more co2 (I over carbed a few weeks back when the temp dropped in my shed!!)
Looking at the pic of your pint it looks typically under carbed. As you say, give it a few more days. Keep sampling daily, it's important!

Re: No Head
Check it in the morning and maybe up the gas pressure a little.
Had enough left after kegging to fill a coke bottle so force carbed that and drank this even and it's good

Re: No Head
Check to see if your keg tap can be pushed back as well as pulled forward. Think of keg homebrew a bit like (as much as I hate to say it) Guinness. Pull forward for majority of the pour and push back for a little head.
Southern Brewing
FV 1 (5 gallon): Nothing
FV 2 (5 gallon): Nothing
Commercial: More booze than some local pubs.
Re: No Head
Tap only pulls forward, cut the pipe short so that there's enough to allow the door to open that's all and it pours at a nice rate now.
It's now had a week with the co2 on and this is the pint tonight.

Looks much better to me!
Re: No Head
Tastes much better I'm too inpatient to wait for it to condition.
Had a BBQ this evening and having it on tap in the shed was far too handy for topping my glass up.
Old Perculier is now sat fermenting away in the other fridge, can't wait to get that on top
