Possibly the cheapest counter pressure bottle filler

Post by mattp94 » Mon Jul 06, 2015 2:56 pm

I was just having a look around ebay and came across these carbonation caps.

Now I'd seen these being used to carbonate water or soft drink before but at around 3:00 into this video you can see it being used as a rather rudimentary but still effective counter pressure bottle filler.

I've just ordered one so will give this a go.

I ordered some from Aliexpress for approx £8 delivered and have used them as mentioned for filling PET bottles under pressure.
They work a treat and hold the pressure very well.
I saw it in this video.

They look like a great idea - I've ordered a couple myself from the eBay link in the OP. Estimated delivery from Australia is 10-14 July, which is pretty damn quick as well, so I may even be able to try them out for the party I'm going to on Saturday!

Anyone know if you end up with a Royal Mail/ other courier handling charge on these upon delivery? I've had that before with stuff from the USA (a flat £8 if it's Royal Mail). Do they pre-pay any duty?

I've thought about these but, as I use crusader kegs, I would have to buy some corney disconnects. Certainly doable.

I just received a DIY stir plate kit from an ebay seller in Australia and that was delivered to my house by royal mail. No duties or other charges to pay on that one.

I've just ordered one but like you will have the cornie disconnects issue to deal with. It's a good cheap solution though for someone like me who hardly ever bottles beer.
Best wishes

Me too. Fingers crossed they arrive in a reasonably timely fashion!

Mine arrived today, a quick test bottling some of my Rye IPA (which I normally have to pour very slowly) was very successful.

I got mine a couple of days ago, and filled a bottle last night with great ease - really quick and effective with very little foam in the bottle, and that was at my normal serving pressure but with a foot of 3/8" rather than several feet of 3/16". I'm going to be very inclined now to just brew to a corney-length and bottle from the keg, rather than my normal approach of brewing to a few litres more than the corney and bottling whatever won't fit. Just a shame I can't use it to fill one of my mini-kegs!

Very good customer service from the eBay seller as well - my package arrived with fewer items in it than I ordered, and after a quick email the rest of it is now somewhere between Australia and Berkshire.

Hmmm. I've tried using mine and had issues. When I connect the ball lock disconnect to the carbonator cap, it leaks everywhere between the disconnect and the top of the cap, with both gas and liquid disconnects. The disconnects were off eBay and the seller has had 100% feedback here

Not sure what the problem is. I will see whether a mate's disconnects work ok, otherwise I may have a dud carbonator cap, although surely that is unlikely?

Edit: just noticed my cap doesn't have a seal on the post...
