Brewgas sparkler tap on budget barrel

Post by davew » Wed Jul 08, 2015 11:29 pm

As per the title really, has anybody fitted the brewgas sparkled tap to a budget 2' cap pressure barrel? Are any modifications required?

Thanks
Fermenting: Wilkos Cider

Per Home Brew website:
The tap is specifically designed for the King Keg barrel or similar barrel with 4" cap, to allow fitting with a back nut. We have fitted the Sparkler tap to standard barrels in store, which will work but does need some expertise in getting right. So we would only suggest you fit this Sparkler tap to a standard barrel if you are an experienced home brewer, fitting to a standard barrel may damage the tap and barrel.

I have now fitted the Brewgas sparkler tap to two budget barrels. I put Pte tape on the thread and screwed them in. No need for the back nut and no leaks so far. The flow is very controllable and is much better than the standard taps.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I was just Googling these taps with same thought of replacing the ordinary tap on my standard lhbs barrel. Did you have any issues?

Anyone else have anything they could add?PTFE seems a good solution...
