Malt Miller Chrome Tap

Post by danwlx » Mon Aug 17, 2015 9:41 pm

Hi all,

I've bought the below tap for my new cornie set-up:

After a bit more research I now realise that trying to pour a lively pilsner using a tap directly on the out post will be a challenge! Has anyone hooked this up to a length of 3/16" beer line? If so any guidance on the correct (hopefully push-fit) fittings would be greatly appreciated!

This isn't what you are going to want to hear... I rang up the malt Miller a few weeks back asking about the same thing. Was told that it is not really compatible to be hooked up to a beer line.

You are right Manngold, not what I wanted to hear! As you have already found this out, have you also fouñd a solution? I'm looking for a tap that I can hook up to 3/16" beer line to control flow. I'd rather it didn't dent the wallet too!

The tap suggested may be a better option however, I have a part arriving today that may sort it, will let you know.

Cheers

I actually purchased two of these from Chris, they arrived yesterday. They look amazing, really pleased. They have a 3/8 barbed nipple for connecting, although you can also get John Guest fittings that go from 3/16 to 3/8.

I too have one of those clip on 'sample' taps, and they are about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

with cornies or any Hi pressure keg system ideally the tap/line system should apply restriction so that the Hi keg pressure set to maintain condition levels is reduced to a nominal level at the tap point, otherwise the high drop in pressure is likely to stimulate a catastrophic dumping of all dissolved co2 in the beer or a 'foam out', pouring nowt but foam which when settled will leave u with a flat beer.

so to use one of these clip on taps with any level of success you need to unhook from the gas supply and vent of all but a fraction of the keg pressure. and then you may be able to use it..

imho leave that tap in the bottom of the bits box and buy a basic dalex style tap for a tenner and feed it with easy to manage 3/16" microline, a length of 4-6ft should work well for most beers :)
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(
