Using sodastream regulator with non sodastream bottles

Post by penguinman » Fri Aug 28, 2015 8:12 pm

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me with a question. I have a co2 regulator for cornelius kegs, which attatches to sodastream bottles (this one https://www.hopandgrape.co.uk/regulator ... nders.html ) and was wondering if anyone knows of any way of using it with larger non-sodastream co2 bottles so that I won't have to buy a whole new regulator to use larger co2 bottles.
Thankyou :)

Arrrrrr, at that price, I guess you want to reuse it.

1st you can get the mig gas bottle regs for about £20-30 ish

2nd the bit that screws int to the body of your reg (the bit that holds the nut that you put on a soda co2) is held with a bit of thread lock. It will be a bit hard to hold as it so short. But if you can undo it you can get the nut of a fire ex horn and replace it. And use some Ptfe tape when you put it back together. Then you can use FE's. I beleave it the same thread in as I did not have to do this when I brougt a mig gas reg, cos it fitted straight on.

3rd. You could find an adaptor to fit, but you need to know the threads and be sure.

4th there was a post on here, about liquid going back into the soda co2 bot, that member used a mig reg with an adaptor on a soda co2 bot. I will see if I can dig it out ( the post) the maybe he can tell you the type of the adaptor and where he got it. Then maybe you can get the other sex type ( male x female threads)

And if your lucky someone may come along and just point you to a web page with apart number

It looks to me there is an adaptor in the middle. Give him a PM, BUT REMEMBER, you want the other sex, it would be worth double checking that it the right one.

Edit: I just had a good (bigger pic) look, at the reg, that shutoff valve looks like it's a male/female, it just screws in the reg body.so I was talking a rubbish at 2nd bit
