2 litres growlers

Post by sbond10 » Mon Aug 31, 2015 6:59 pm

Just noticed these http://shop.crusaderkegsandcasks.com/2- ... -148-p.asp

And
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/251976472965

Just wondered what is required to dispense beer from these. Or wheather a larger bag in a box is a better idea? The larger stainless kegs are an eye watering price.

Cheers sean

The cheapest keg option is a second hand 19l corny keg.

These were cheap and they have been reduced again. Working out at about £24 plus delivery. They are cheaper than a Wilko pressure barrel. https://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/a-use ... -2870.html

All of them will need a supply of CO2, a regulator and a tap.

yeah 2 gall is a much better homebrew size i reckon, but 9L cornies aren't cheap. i've got some 10L sanke's coming from china, expecting the customs call in the next coupla days actually. dunno how cheap they'll be by the time that's happened. guess one way to look at it is that for the equivalent volume the 9L kegs aren't a lot more (12,50 or 20 for 2L.. x 5.. )

330 quid for 5 including postage (that was actually f*ck all.. ). think they'll end up fairly equivalent to the 9L cornies but i want something that doesn't need pressure to seal so i can use them as casks as well

I have a couple of the second growler. It's a screw on lid so once opened the beer will go off fairly fast. In saying that, Rob is supposed to be importing a tap system for it which uses the 16g CO2 bulbs or a cylinder. Something like

I'm fairly tempted myself, and I guess that under a CO2 system they should be good for a few weeks once opened. They do a larger version too.

If not, you could always consider mini-kegs. I have a party star deluxe tap that also use 16g cartridges and the beer keeps for at least a couple of weeks.

A guy in the club has the dispense tap, which has a hook up to an external gas supply, and he says it's a bit crap, really fiddle gas in. The tap itself, and the growler are great though

A keg of beer will last for ages as it's kept under CO2 so a large keg is fine even if you drink slowly.
