Corny Kegs to a normal UK Beer Pump

Post by gassman » Mon Nov 30, 2015 5:41 pm

I have been given several UK pumps (not hand pull) and need some advice on using these rather than my Perlic taps.

I have only looked at the cider one at the moment and there are 2 steel pipes going in with what looks like a thin plastic drip pipe running out.

I used a John Guest fitting and tried a corny on it and it pissed out of the other steel pipe (only water no worries)

How do I use these pups with my cornies please

I would guess that the 2 steel pipes are for cooling and the plastic pipe is for the cider/beer

strip it right down to clean.. ;)

you will probably find a JG fitting on the actual tap itself, this will probably be 3/16", 5/16", or 3/8".. And if a tight corner is employed within the font a 90 degree stem elbow fitting could be used to connect the tap to the actual line.

pouring a good pint from a corny or other hi pressure keg requires some sort of restriction on the beer out line to balance off the internal keg pressure as if the pressure at the tap point is significantly higher than atmospheric pressure then the pressure difference can stimulate a catastrophic loss of suspended c02 on release.
(foam out & flat beer when it settles)
the easy way is to use the microline (3/16") which restricts pressure at a rate of 1-2psi per foot length, most folk find a length of 4-6ft of the 3/16" microline is sufficient between the keg and tap..
ist update for months n months..

Ok so it is a 3/16 coming out of the tap but only extends out of the bottom by maybe 10 inches so do you suggest lengthening the 3/16 or just running a 3/8 to that.

The last set up I had was actually perlicks on a kegerator but I did have about 15 feet of 3/8 to each tap

This time of course with a normal beer pump, I will not have the flow regulator on the tap

Looks like I have 2 at 5/16 and 1 at 3/16

Think what I will do is this.

I have a fridge freezer and the top fridge will take 3 cornies so may use the Perlics on the door as I had another set up like that

The bottom will take I think 2 kegs because of the motor at the back and from them I will just use 2 beer pumps on the bar (I will put 3 on there as should look good with the lights on)

All I have to work out now is to buy an stc controller and see how the bottom freezer is controlled separately from the top fridge

I have time on my hands at the moment so will give me something to do

I have one corny conditioning with bitter near back door which is freezing, a cider, bitter and a stout in the other 3 buckets which should do for the xmas holiday

Hope to get it all sorted before then anyway
