Kegging with no temperature control

Post by Will333 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:35 pm

I know a kegerator is near essential for using kegs but that is not possible at the moment so I need to make do with what I have got... I am planning on doing the following:

Make temporary space in fridge and place keg in for 12-24hrs
Force carbonate by connecting gas at 30psi and gently rolling for 1 min
Place back in fridge for another 12-24hrs
Release pressure using valve and connect gas at serving pressure
Leave gas unconnected and only top up as necessary (just in case there are any leaks - is the syphoning tubing advertised as beer/gas line on some online home brew shops suitable?)
Then I'd store the keg in the basement (the temperature is about 14 at the moment but it does vary)

Would this work (especially during the winter when the temperature is at a good ale temp)??
