Corny regulator

Post by Bunglebrewsbeer » Wed May 11, 2016 8:31 pm

First time using my corny I've got it set at 5° and 12PSI to reach desired carbonation in just under a week. Having checked regulator it's now reading below 10. I have the bottle of CO2 in the fridge would that affect the reading on the regulator and if so do I need to do anything?

I'm not quite clear on which pressure/dial you mean. If its the high pressure cylinder gauge then that can indeed drop when the cylinder gets cooler. If its the low pressure dial for the keg, then it shouldn't drop whilst there is a gas supply enabling the regulator to maintain the pressure. It can drop if you turn the gas off though, the beer can absorb some gas if it hasn't reached equilibrium, and if the beer is still cooling down that has a similar effect.

I knew it was one of the dials. Just keep up the daily sampling Bungle!

The one on the right. I set to 12 but it's now well under 10.

Thats the low pressure/output gauge, and the 12 you set it to was PSI. It looks like its at about 6PSI in the picture.

These primary regulators aren't the most subtle at low pressure, and the cold can affect their setting slightly so it may just need adjusting again (tapping the gauge as suggested). The only concern I have is if the gauge has been affected as well or instead of the regulator, it may be misleading you and the pressure could be okay. Unfortunately in all the setups I've had, the cylinder has never been in the fridge so I can't say from experience. Hopefully someone else can.

Well I've just had a sample and it's all good. Tapped it a few times. No joy. I'll just leave it as it is for now as serves a nice glass of beer chilled and carbed. Could maybe do with slightly more carb but it's all good. Appears it's worked. Happy days.

As already said 6psi is pretty subtle for one of these regulators. Mine seem happy with small accurate adjustment down to 10psi but after that it's pretty inaccurate I think.
