New Keezer build

Post by sjnovis » Thu Jun 02, 2016 5:05 pm

I made a start last weekend on my first Keezer.

I had been waiting for ages for a suitable small chest freezer to become available at an OK price, at long last one popped up on ebay in my town, so I snapped it up.

It has room for two corny kegs, it will also allow a 5l mini keg to fit in as well, so assuming I can get the plumbing sorted, I will make it a three tap unit.

Popped to B and Q for some timber to make the collar, the most suitable timber was wide enough to give the height needed (200mm) but not very thick, so I doubled these up, screwing and glueing the planks together.

After cutting, glueing and screwing the parts together, we have:

with it sat atop the freezer it looks promising

I stopped here as I'll paint everything, but cannot decide on colours yet.

I got a little further along last weekend

I painted the wooden collar with cream exterior wood paint and spay painted the freezer body dark green.
Spray paining was more difficult than I expected, i had to do four coats to get a decent covering, not putting too much on each time was key to not getting the runs

After these had dried, i drilled the collar for the gas line and temp probe, then glued the collar to the freezer.
I will wait until the winter to see if I need to install a heater, I'll see how cold it gets.
I sat two full cornys on top to hold it down while the glue dried overnight.

Next day I re-attached the lid and bolted the taps on.

This weekend I'll do the plumbing, and all being well have a beer :D
I am not sure what to do about a drip tray at the moment, will ponder that.

Did you finish the plumbing on this?
Looks good, I'm trying to find a freezer locally that'll take 3 cornies and a gas bottle!
