Wanting to condition some big beers in champagne bottles and looking for best way to seal them. As I understand it you can use 29mm crown caps, proper cork and cage or reusable plastic corks.
Anyone had any experience with any of these? I presume you need corking equipment to put both types of corks in bottles?
Champagne bottle corks
Re: Champagne bottle corks
Malt miller sells the corks and cages. I use this to Cork mine http://www.thebottlejarstore.co.uk/brew ... _P643.html
There's a bit of a knack to doing it but it works really well. You've got to push the Cork just over halfway in and then pull the platform out that the bottle sits on and pull the lever all the way round to release the Cork. This leaves the bit hanging out at the top. There are other methods though.
I found large crown caps don't fit all bottles but the corking machine can cap too and comes with the small and large cappers so you can do those with it as well.
