Bubbles in keg line
Bubbles in keg line
Hi all, one of my lines seems to have quite a lot of bubbles in which is producing much foam.
Could this be a fault with the poppet? Or something else perhaps?
Any advice appreciated!

Re: Bubbles in keg line
Is the line properly chilled? This will happen when there's a temperature difference between the keg and the line.
Re: Bubbles in keg line
Should be, all kegs and lines are in the freezer together. The other tap pours fine. Was thinking a poss issue with the keg. Temp is something for me to check then

Re: Bubbles in keg line
What pressure did you carb at and what are you serving at? Are all your connections tight?
Re: Bubbles in keg line
Carbed at about 10 ish, serving must be down at 2 or below.

Re: Bubbles in keg line
depends on the length and diameter of line used, but the pressure from the keg will be reduced the further along the beerline you get and as such if left to sit for any length of time beer at the tap end of the line will loose some condition as co2 in the line as it reaches its new post keg equilibrium.
Its nothing to worry about and will only result in an initial cough n splutter and a 1/4 pint of foam when you next start a serving session.. and if left to settle in a glass will represent about a thimble full perhaps 2, of actual beer..

Re: Bubbles in keg line
Quite simply for one reason or another the beer is over carbonated and no alteration to beer line length or diameter will cure it. You can set the serving pressure as low as you like but if the internal pressure is already higher then it will have absolutely no effect. You can check this by disconnecting the gas line and then trying to pour a pint. You will still get a glass of foam. You need to degass the beer by manually operating the relief valve several times until the problem ceases or buy one these when they are back in stock and you will never have the problem again.mosquat wrote:Hi all, one of my lines seems to have quite a lot of bubbles in which is producing much foam.

Re: Bubbles in keg line
I had this exact same problem, turned out it was a bit of hop matter in the dip tube. Cleared it out and it started pouring fine again. Would be the last thing to check thou as it obv a risk opening a keg full of beer
Re: Bubbles in keg line
Thanks very much, weird that 2 kegs carbed up fine but this last one has potentially over carbed...shouldnt be too hard to solve tho

Re: Bubbles in keg line
I had a similar thing on one beer tap line - traced it to a connection where the pipe was not cut perpendicular, so presumably was creating enough turbulence to trigger foaming.
Ready to go: Malt extract, grain, yeast and a freezer full of hops.
Fermenting: Nowt.
Conditioning: Nelson's Revenge.
Drinking: Stop Wining, Firsty Gold, DarkMun, Yankee, Porter, ApAht, Cider, Mead, Tripel, Elderflower beer, Gluten Free, beer, wine, port, gin, beer, wine, port, gin...

Didnt want to sound dumb at the time...how does this work and help the issue?

Re: Bubbles in keg line
Once the beer is carbonated attach it to the cornie and set it to your serving pressure and it will vent any excess pressure. Remove it attach your gas line and away you go. No more foam filled glasses.mosquat wrote:Didnt want to sound dumb at the time...how does this work and help the issue?
