Mini fridge that can take multiple 4L Brew Builder growlers

Post by TheSumOfAllBeers » Tue Oct 10, 2017 1:07 pm

I picked up a few of these 4L kegs a while ago, for party beer and the like:
https://www.brewbuilder.co.uk/stainless-growler-4l.html

But I dont use them as much as I should, after seeing the prices of mini-fridges that you can sometimes pick up on ebay/gumtree etc. I thought that it might be worth making a mini-kegerator out of them. Space is a premium in the house, and I dont have room for a full kegerator setup.

However with the spear head assembly + gas-in & beer out posts fitted, these 4L units are a bit tall:

About 409mm with post attached, beer out disconnect would add more height.

I dont think they will fit upright in a cheap 46/47L husky fridge. I reckon I would need something around 430-450mm internal height minimum. This also gives enough headroom to upgrade to Malt Miller 10L sankey kegs: https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/index.p ... uctId=4449 Which I have my eye on.

Anyone know what small fridge models have that kind of internal height (and an uncluttered internal space obviously).

EalingDrop: that is an option. These kegs use a flexible silicone tube for their dip tube, so if it goes all the way to the bottom and the edge (there is a helpful recess in the base of them to make this happen) it will suck up all the beer, if it is left horizontal, but with a slight tilt.

But I would prefer if they went vertical - i dont think you are guaranteed to get the dip tube to sink.

Brewpete: what fridge model do you use ? 50cm internal height seems to be a magic number for a lot of reasons, but mini fridge manufacturers didnt get that memo.

I am looking to get a dedicated fridge though. The existing fridge is full of food and baby stuff.

My plan was to use the mini kegs with the beer out post, so that I can use a different tap that works better in confined spaces.
