im not suprised fisherman.. there is no fan blowing over the radiator to cool it and loose the heat,

with little or no heat loss there is likely to be very little chilling..

test again with some sort of fan cooling the radiator and you may find it will chill somewhat better..

you should have something with a 6" fan in the case blowing the heat out thru the radiator..
ist update for months n months..

There are no signs of any fixings for a fan as if there never was one and the radiator is only a few degrees above ambient I can easily hold the input to the radiator in my hand even after it’s been on for half an hour but I will try it.
thank you

I wonder if the missing agitator has a fan on the top which is supposed to draw the air in through the handle hole and expels the air out through the rad.
You may be onto something there Fil.

Operation was a success but the patient died. The radiator was stone cold through out the exhaustive 15 minute test but no cooling happened. The primary cooling coil remained room temp. Just a note of interest, when (if) I get this to work is it safe to allow the fiber glass cooling bucket with the coils in to freeze, or is that a no no.
Thanks

here are a few chiller pics,

#1 Not a Maxi Brand Agitator 2 product chiller with agitator

Image

See the fan? afaik refrigeration works due to 'temp differences ( potentials)' in the coolant as its compressed and expanded, without the difference or potential in temps its not going to be effective..

#2 Maxi brand 4 product coils with recirc/python pump

Image

again fan under silver cowelling..

Chilling was poor thru the 2 product chiller it turned out to be a faulty agitator.. even thoufg the chiller did build up an ice wall
Image

Yes the ice wall is good, it the intended cold sink/store for heavy demand and will chill successive pints poured during busy rush hour demand..

but you may not need to run a chiller to thec extent it forms an ice wall as a water bath full of 0c water may have sufficient chill stored to pull the temperature of a personal evenings quaffings alone.. It does this end, meaning for serving i run the compressor for 30-40 minutes of an evening and rely on the chillers insulation to retain the chill for the evening.. (the recirc/agitator are ryn when pouring to achieve max chill.. )

Yes I see. Even on the exploded views in the manual it shows a fan but this one doesn’t. Maybe they took the agitator and the fan out before passing it on? Will the fact that there is no agitator paddle cause a problem? Strange how there are no mounting holes, cables or brackets showing a fan was ever on it. I have dealt with the larger Copeland scroll three phase compressors for geo thermal heating before and have seen those too hot to touch at the bottom and ice on the top! I will be ready for a beer after this lot.

without a recirc or agitator the chill via the product coils will be poor even with a nice big ice wall as without movement the water surrounding the product coils will heat up and reuce the effect iirc a term 'hot finger' is used to describe this..

a cheap n easy replacement is a small water feature pump..
