Beer Gas.

Post by Midlife » Wed Feb 07, 2018 11:00 pm

Hello, my C02 bottle is nearing a swap out, I went t gas U.K., and noticed they don't seem to have the UN1013 at the moment so I started looking at beer gas... I did some searches here but couldn't find allot about this product. Could me though?

Is beer gas say 50/50 ok for keg set ups? I do all sorts of beer not just stouts... or should I stick to 100 % C02.

Thanks, D.

You might need a mixed gas regulator to use it.

You will need a mixed gas regulator. Not just because they are designed to handle higher pressure, but the couplings are different too. Mixed gas is under very high pressure; it is a compressed gas. Carbon dioxide is at a lower pressure because at about 8-900PSI it will be liquid.

Mixed gas isn't just for "stout". It will help keep the carbonation down despite many home-brewers (and Pubs) being heavy handed with the pressure. To generate shaving cream from stout you need frigid temperatures as well as b*** breaking pressures (and special taps with special sparklers).

Stick with CO2. But if you think your bottle is nearing swap out because the high pressure gauge is dropping from the usual 8-900psi, do it quick because the bottle only contains fumes.

Yes I see what you mean... thanks.

I have found some other food grade C02 suppliers.

Apologies if I've got this wrong but I just want to check you're not looking for something called UN1013?

This is the UN Dangerous Goods code for CO2 which might be stuck on the bottle but it isn't the product code.. Gas UK seem to have plenty of CO2 available online...
