Sparkling/carbonated water

Post by Rankin_leigh » Sat May 25, 2019 5:59 pm

I've played around a little bit with testing to see if using a carbonation cap, if i could refill 2l sparkling water bottles, and well, re-sparkle them.

At the minute had very limited success, but slightly cautious of turning up the pressure to high (no idea how much those cheap throw away bottles can take).

I guess im trying to make a cheap home made sodastream with the stuff i already have.

Ive seen other people do it with cornies, but firstly i prefer the idea of keeping the amount per one small enough not to need chemicals that will potentially tant the taste, and mainly - i dont want to give up one of my cornies to water!

In this time of trying to save plastic, has anyone else had any success with this, or similar?

Leigh.

Yes it works really well. Fill bottle about 5/6ths full then refrigerate for an hour or so. Squeeze the excess air out attach the gas around 20 psi and then shake for around 10 seconds and turn gas off. I always point the cap away from me. Leave for a couple of minutes before removing carbonation cap. :D

There’s an industry burst standard for bottles that contain carbonated drinks and bust pressure is huge, they are ductile and designed to be over pressured, loads of YouTube vids out there.

I have inflated PET bottles to 45PSI without any issues.

I use them as portable co2 for mini kegs.

I believe that they will go a lot higher

Edit: and if I watch the end of the video, they will go to 150PSI+

When ever I have tried to make soda water I only get water with huge bubbles that goes flat quickly?
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
