Hope long to plastic barrels stay fresh once opened?

This feels like such a basic question, but I'm buggered if I can find an answer (and happily accept that I may be being thick).

So, if I put a 40 pint brew in a standard plastic barrel, and then let it condition for an appropriate amount of time, how long have I got after drawing off the first pint until the barrel will go off?

Longer than it takes to drink it!

That's assuming you top up the barrel with CO2 when the beer stops coming out.

I suppose that depends how quickly it gets drunk :-)

Would it keep a month (with the addition of CO2)?

Easily. Once the beer's in the keg it'll produce CO2 as it continues to ferment. You'll only need to add gas when the beer stops flowing out of the tap.
