PB cap seals

Post by aamcle » Mon Mar 15, 2021 11:01 am

Good Morning All.

I have just finished and cleaned out a 1/2 size (10-12litre) PB and even though the cap wasn't over tightened and the seal ring lightly smeared with silicon grease it has split at the joint.

I believe it split because it's just badly made any idea were I can get better quality rings?

Before any Corny Keg fanboys start, I have two they're full and the PBs are great for low carbed beers like stouts.

Love a pressure barrel for stouts and bitters.

In lieu of buying seals, you could always fabricate your own.

TYM Seals and Gaskets has an ebay shop that sells a range of silicone sheets in small sizes:

An A4 sized 4mm or 5mm sheet would allow you to cut 5 or 6 seals using a compass cutter (costs <£4):

Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

I've used the silicone sheet to create custom seals for a couple of things and it's worked very well, saving me quite a lot in having to replace equipment due to failed/unavailable seals.

Good shout. Great idea.
I have make fixings for things with mouldable thermoplastic (trillions) - this is a the next step for an idea I have. Thanks.

If your sealing taps or other stainless to a vessel the food grade silicone mastic is I feel the best as you can tighten up the fittings to the point that nothing wobbles.
