Frothing

Post by meikle » Fri Oct 26, 2007 9:15 pm

I've just started a brew but on checking it after around 20 hours it was frothing up through the bubbler, is this ok or should I run for cover under the bed before she blows? :?:

Just sounds like a very lively and healthy ferment. Have you got the lid of your FV on tightly? I never use an air lock, I just put the lid on then crack it open just a little on one side. If you do open the lid a bit it might pay you to stand the FV on something just incase the head over flows a little.

I had to wrap a towel around the top of my FV to soak up all the froth. 23L of beer in a 25L FV doesnt leave much room for foaming! My last brew was only 12L and I noticed the foam had stained the underside of the lid on the FV.
