Delayed Heartache

Post by Adam » Mon Oct 29, 2007 7:59 pm

I was hoping to have moved to my new place today and have homebrew going by the weekend and ready for Christmas....

Postal strikes, weather and other factors have added up to another two week (at least) delay. November 10th is the likely date so the week following should mark my first foray into homebrewing.

Plans in place are to use big water bottles and try 10 litres of Turbo Cider (wrong forum but bear with me) - this will keep the fermenter i buy free for first kit.

Despite not drinking it, i also want to flavour vodka, mint, skittle and aniseed being the ideas.

I wanted a beer and the stout ready for christmas but with time ticking away i don't know if i'll have long enough for a kit to becaome palatable (lets face it i will drink it anyway) and wanted to know if there is a kit recommended for drinking 5 weeks after brewing...

if i did stout then beer would that give them both long enought to mature.

any advice (sympathy) appreciated

p.s. checked out my Local Wilkinsons and they carry a little but lovable homebrewing section

try a coopers stout, takes about 7 to 10 days to ferment then 4 weeks to mature in the bottle and should be ready for christmas

have to agree with Daab there, I am just fermenting my second brewers choice kit, and they are the best ive done, they have fermented out / gone off like a rocket, the fact they are dry make them so much easier to make up as well

after you have soaked the tea bags twice the hot "tea" in your bucket is enough to mix up the dme and 'sugar' then by the time you have topped it up with cooler water its at the ideal temp for pitching!

not tasted them yet, however the best bitter I did is a week in conditioning at has fallen clearish pretty quickly

thanks everyone... can't wait to have a go, or to taste it but will just have to make do with shop bought alcohol for now.

Go for it Adam!

Just done my first kit last night. I was daunting before I kicked it off but once I'd started it was easy as pie. I did a Cooper's Dark Ale with 1Kg Spray Malt and it was simple to make up, I'm sure a Cooper's Stout would be just as easy.
