I am pretty new to this site. Been brewing for a couple of years but picked up more tips in last few days then ever before - thank you!
Question is, I noticed on one of the posts that someone is brewing a Geordie Lager by using 2 kits and no brewing sugar. Is this something that is worth doing with the 1 tin kits? I tend to go for the 2 tin kits normally. I only mention as I was in Wilko last night and they had Geordie Lager for £5 a tin. Do I stick with 1 tin and sugar or for a tenner go for 2 kits / no sugar?? Stupid question but I preume the 2 tin kits will always be the best ones??

Generally speaking the more you pay the better the quality. A Cheap kit may very well not be 1.5Kg of Malt extract but could already be adulterated with cheaper sugars like Barley Syrup (made from barley by chemical extraction). Then you add another kilo of sugar . . . the problem here is that you also dilute the nutrients require dby the yeast for fermentation so may find that fermentation does not proceed as expected.
I would certainly expect to get a better result from using two of the kit n kilo kits to make up the 5 gallons, but as good as a 3Kg all malt kit

Re: Kits
i did two kits, no extra sugars and both packets of yeast. turned out very good. make sure you give it a bloody good stir though. it didn't taste too different from the ones i have done with sugar. its well worth a tenner.scott6 wrote:I am pretty new to this site.
