Caxtons Real Ale Result!

Post by coatesg » Thu Dec 06, 2007 11:44 pm

I posted a fair few weeks ago now about the Caxtons I had that tasted of pure green apples (not good!) - but persevered with it anyhow.

It has actually turned out quite well - the apples have disappeared, it's very clear, and has an interesting hoppy flavour to it and is quite smooth.

In true "tradition" (or so I can gather  ), here's my "vossy" of this one :D

Details on this:

Caxtons Real Ale
500g Dark Muntons DME
500g sugar (Tate & Lyle  )
1/2 of the hop extract supplied

9 days FV
Kegged + 80g sugar prime (keg cap split after 7 days so re-pressurised with some CO2 and new lid  )
OG: 1040
FG: 1008

I'd like to have another go with this one but using the full 1kg DME, and all the packet of hop extract , but guess I may have to use a bit more yeast on that one. Worryingly, this one has to last until New Year's Eve for a party, though I'm gonna struggle to not dip into this again...

Cheers!

Graeme
