Priming a corni keg

Hello gang
would it be a good idea to prime the keg with sugar/dme as I will not be hooking upto my co2 system for a while or I did read somewhere that I can hook upto the co2 and pressurise than disconnect and store,im a bit confused as I dont know how I would do this.
any help guys
