Few questions

Post by Chill » Wed Jan 16, 2008 10:56 pm

Just put a bit order in for my next few kits and would like to canvas opinion on how to use them

Ive ordered

2 geordie scottish export kits (Going to bosh these two in together as we did this last time with 2 goerdie mild kits and it worked a treat)
1 EDMA Irish stout kit (Going to make this up with a beer enhancer)
1 geordie yorkshire bitter kit (again going to make this up with beer enhancer)
2 youngs brew buddie cider kits (never done a cider that aint TC before was thinking of sticking them both in together? or worth our while just making them up with cane sugar)
1 youngs blackberry wine kit (never done any wine before should it be easy as bosh it all in a demijohn and it will sort itself out? and will it be ok to bottle in PET bottles?)

Also bought some alcotec 48 yeast despite reading threads saying it tastes like crap i need to find out for myself haha would this be best fermenting at a lower temperate 18C ish? ive got a immersion heater but generally use them for the beers and the lowest temperature it goes to is 22C

last question is about equipment I have 2 budget kegs and 1 fermenter but I would like to start two brews going as soon as possible, would it be ok to use one of the kegs as a fermenter to start with? or is this a silly idea?

Thanks

Therre is a discussion in then other brews forum regarding making up a cider kit with apple juice instead of sugar and apparently the results were very good.

I can recommend you leave this for a several weeks to mature (a month had it crystal clear and really nice but I'd reached the end of my barrel by then )

IMHO if your barrel has a 4" neck then cleaning it out shouldn't be a problem just make sure you leave the lid on loose so the CO2 can get out!

Cheers for the advise, thinking of making up the cider kits up with apple juice reackon this will be better than making 40 pints out of 2 kits? suppose it means i get 80 pints instead of 40 which is always good. Stuff was supposed to be deliverd thismorning so we could get cracking and hav a brew day today but it aint come, grrrrrr
