Post by mctoon » Fri Nov 16, 2007 3:12 pm

Hi brewers, bought these today, after a quick read about the tea bag etc, noticed it said rehydrate the yeast at 38-40C is that not a bit High?,

Also with the a Dogbolter, noticed on the underside of the can, Best before DEC 06, oops, will it be okay?

Cheers Mal

Next question:- 5ltrs of mineral water for £1, at iceland what do you guys think?,,, Will mineral water make a diffence?

Mind you with a kit that is nearly 1 year out of date i dont think it will make much difference

I didnt mean the price MickyD, i was wondering if it would be better using mineral water as appose to tap

20l for £1.70 in Morrisons and you can put your finished beer back into the 2l bottles too  Clean water and bottles for under £2 can't say fairer than that

Edit: D'oh! just seen the post above, I'm not sure I noticed a difference to be fair but you can re use the bottles as mentioned.

There's absolute reams of information on this site re: the treatment of tap water for brewing. I think when I go AG I'll use treated tap water purely because you need so much more of it for mashing, sparging etc. but I've found bottled water to be good enough, nice and easy for the kits.

I just made a Coopers IPA using Tesco Springs water (17p 2ltrs) and it tasted great out of the FV. I found it cheap, handy, plus you get empty bottles. Lots of opinion on water on this thread,
